Disclaimer … (please read!)

When you apply for a court appointed public defender attorney you will be asked to fill out a packet of information and be interviewed at the courthouse. The packet of information you fill out goes to Oregon Public Defender Service (OPDS) who makes the determination if you qualify. Once OPDS approves you will be assigned an attorney.

You will either be assigned an attorney UVPD or a private attorney who agrees to do public defense work for OPDS.

If you are assigned to UVPD then our office will send you a letter. If you have been appointed an attorney in our office and have not received a letter, please call our office and make sure that 1) we are representing you and 2) that we have your correct address.

UVPD’s website is here to give people more information about UVPD and the Douglas County legal system and is not legal advice. If you want legal advice, you should 1) apply for a court appointed lawyer, if you’re accused of a crime, or 2) hire your own lawyer. Nothing on this web site is legal advice for you or the situation you’re in.

If you are a client and you want to contact your lawyer, call Umpqua Valley Public Defender at 541-957-5344, and make an appointment.

Please see the “Contact Us” page for more information.
